1. Summary of technologies affecting retail
There are many different technologies affecting the retail employment field. We use most of them in our everyday lives without even realizing it anymore. The cash register was first created to keep money safe and make it easier for the sales person to make change. The register also prints a receipt for the customer. A barcode scanner is made to read barcodes. In retail we use them to easily determine the price of an object instead of having to take extra time to search for it.
Video surveillance is used in many places these days. More expensive stores have cameras around the shop to keep an eye out for shoplifters. Another security technology is the security tabs that they put on clothing. The tabs cause the security alarm to go off when a shoplifter tries to leave the store.
Gift cards are another useful technology. You can find gift cards for almost any store that can be worth any amount of money from $10 - $100. You can give a gift card to friends or family members when you aren’t sure what to get them for their birthday or Christmas. Credit Cards have probably affected the retail business the most. You would use a credit card if you don’t have enough cash to pay for something you wanted/needed. At the end of the month you would get a bill and that’s how you would pay for your purchase.
